Dear Peter,
Sorry to call you by your first name.
I am an OFW here in Riyadh and actively involved advocating issues for the welfare of OFW's. In fact I am presently the Secretary General of the OFW Congress-Riyadh a group composed of various Filipino Community Organizations.
It so happen that i was able to drop by at your blog and admire your effort urging Congress to enact legislation to devolve some of the functions, powers and resources of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to local government units (LGUs) to mainstream Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) affairs in local governance.
Actually during the First OFW’s Conference on Reintegration In KSA At Marriot Hotel, we submitted a Position Paper with the following:
1)Recognize OFWs as a "special sector" and strengthen OFW representation in policy -formulating boards;
2)Make economic and social reintegration a centerpiece of the country's overseas employment program sustained by legislative and executive initiatives;
3)Ensure the involvement of the different departments and bureaus of the national and local government in the CORP;
4)Commit human, financial and other requisite resources for the comprehensive approach to OFW reintegration; and
5)Provide empowering mechanisms to migrants, their families and communities, and advocates to enhance their involvement in the affairs of governance locally and overseas.
But all of the above were not taken seriously from our Govt. especially to those agencies that oversees OFW concerns.
Looking forward that all of these will be realized soon through your humble effort.
Thank you and more power.
God Bless!
Manuel "Bong" Amora
